I'm on the latest driver updated, reset PC. If you did this and you know your GPU drivers are up to date and are still having this issue, you will probably have an easier time finding a solution, but I can also help with that as needed. Or if you want a one time fix heres the most recent GPU driver from nvidia ![]() ![]() You dont have to care for whatever nvidia experience is, but its actually gonna notify you when you need to update your GPU drivers so this does not happen again. So - once again this is only if your graphics card is nvidia - go to and click download now to get it. It also just so happens that the latest update as steamVR, as it does update the compositor, requires the latest GPU drivers for Nvidia (or probably something close to it). Windows (or whatever operating system you have) will probably not tell you when your GPU drivers are out of date, even when they are. Oh no :(If I close vrserver.exe then that usually means I have to reboot (or restart vrserver again manually.) I usually leave that one, as well as several others, alone and only close VR Compositor. The problem just reoccurs on the next SteamVR launch. All I had to do was update my gpu drivers! Alright, if you had an nvidia graphics card and you are having this issue, listen up. I currently have 530 hours in SteamVR, but this is the first time I have encountered an error like this. I did not change anything in my setup from yesterday, but for some reason the compositor refuses to launch now. ![]() (Error: Shared IPC Compositor Connect Failed (306))" This has been incredibly infuriating, as I have spent the past few hours trying multiple different things to no avail. Every time I launch SteamVR, it says "Compositor not available" and then shortly after, it says "SteamVR has failed to initiate for unknown reasons.
